The division of Security Sciences has been formed to promote interdisciplinary working to meet the greatest challenges faced by society, to become a focal point for multi-disciplinary activities, and to formulate and apply new areas of knowledge and technology solutions as well as providing independent scientific advice.

Working alongside the S.T.E.M. department, the Security Sciences unit interfaces with a wide range of public and private sector end-users as well as guiding SR21 contribution to international security science and technology policy.

Our world in nowadays faces rapidly evolving security challenges in many aspects of everyday life due to advances in technology, globalisation and living in a more interconnected world. The unit of security sciences seeks to improve security and resilience across a range of scales, from protecting the individual to ensuring the security of whole populations. This is achieved also with the involvement of our technology transfer unit and more specifically with our  Chemical structures unit.

The unit of Security Sciences is working towards new science, technology and innovation on national security and resilience issues, and bring together interdisciplinary teams from across the globe.



In 2009, he studied at Loughborough University, where he obtained an MSc with a distinction.  Danie is a father, family man, an independent Author, Academic and Entrepreneur who has considerable international experience in business, publishing and security risk management. Danie is a dynamic, creative, highly motivated, experienced and versatile Professional Security practitioner, who  has considerable international experience in the private and public sector spanning over a period of 30 years. Security management abilities encompass risk assessment, CCTV and integrated security systems, business continuity, crisis management, crime prevention and reduction strategies, health and safety, fraud investigations, criminal investigations, emergency procedures, and security training. His Man Management abilities encompass motivation, leadership, managing poor performance, handling disciplinary and grievances, financial management and budgets. All his abilities he underwrite with contemporary academic qualifications. He is an effective communicator and accomplished security professional, with strong interpersonal leadership skills and the ability to encourage and motivate others ensuring productivity, value for money, quality and success. Danie has delivered more than 50 professional speeches all around the world, and travelled to numerous countries. Danie is the author of the highly acclaimed youth novel Samson. Danie enjoys the challenges of the academia and his businesses. You can describe Danie in two words – enthusiastic and passionate. He loves art, nature, writing poetry and learning about new countries and cultures.


Peter Camilletti

Peter is the holder of two master degrees. MA in Law from Cambridge and MA in Security Management from Loughborough University. Peter served from 1968 to 2001 as Metropolitan Police Officer. He gained promotion through the ranks retiring as a Detective Superintendent. During the last two years with the Force he was involved in leading teams (260 officers) investigating murder and combating violent gangland crime (Operation Trident). He was personally responsible for introducing the implementation of the Criminal Justice Units into Metropolitan Police Divisional Structures. His other experience in the police service included major fraud investigations for a total of eight years, being involved in major national police computer, personnel and leadership projects. He was commended on five occasions for outstanding detective ability in respect of fraud investigations retiring from the Service with a certificate of exemplary conduct. Peter is the author of learning modules for Crime Investigation and Criminology. Peter’s other interests are long distance walking, reading, The Roman Empire, travel, cinema and theatre.

James Willison is the winner of the Imbert Prize 2011 for his work on Convergence with ASIS Europe and the Information Security community. Unified Security Ltd work in the field of Security Convergence including HR, FM and other business support functions and is an implementation partner of CiticusONE risk management software. James is also the Vice Chairman of the ASIS European Convergence/ESRM committee. He holds a BA in Theology from Durham University, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of London and an MA in Security Management from Loughborough University. He is currently an Associate Senior Lecturer on the Post Graduate Security Management Programme at Loughborough University and regularly speaks at International Security Conferences on Cyber Threats, Converged Security and Enterprise Security Risk Management. He has twenty years experience in Physical and Information Security management, working with leading global organisations and involved in developing their security strategies. He has written numerous articles on converged security risk management and contributes frequently to on-line security forums. James is the co –author on the learning module Information Security and Cyber Crime.
